Bhagavad Gita

On a bit of a whim, I thought: "I should try to translate the Bhagavad Gita"

I listened to it on tape a year ago, but it didn't make much of an impact. But my biography of Gandhi said it was a good book that people should read, and I've got a smattering of grade school Hindi, and its pretty short and seems like people think its dense with wisdom. And translation seems a neat challenge, Sanskrit a good language, something to fill the hours.

To be clear: I do not have the knowledge, expertise, guidance, patience for this. There are better ways to internalize that which many consider sacred truths.

I'll be working from this Sanskrit copy of the Bhagavad Gita. It's got transliterations but that's cheating, I'll be trying to focus on the Devanagari.

I've got a hard copy of the Apte Practical Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Compact 2005 edition. References to (p. ###) will refer to the page number within this dictionary. Seems like there are basically two dictionaries, Apte and Monier-Williams, both kinda old. There are online editions of both - Apte (although this is the "revised and enlarged edition" - page numbers seem to basically match what I've got though) and Monier-Williams (references to (m. p. ###) refer to page numbers within this scan of the Monier-Williams dictionary).

learnsanskrit.cc seems to be another Sanskrit-English dictionary, although it is hard to tell it's provenance. I have used it occasionally
